EXCLUSIVE: Q&A With Cody Simpson

Cody Simpson’s awesome song “La Da Dee” just appeared in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 and we got the chance to talk with him all about it! But not only did Cody spill on the making of the music video, he also opened up about all the romantic things he does for his GF!

BOP&TB: How did you get involved with Cloudy 2? How does it feel to have one of your songs in a movie?

Cody: Well, my managers received a call from Sony Pictures saying that they were looking for a song for the new Cloudy 2 movie and that they were big fans of my music and were hoping we might have something that would fit. I recommended that we send them La Da Dee and it turned out that it was a perfect fit. I think I may have had some help from the daughter of the producer of the movie who is apparently a fan of mine. I’m really glad it worked out, it’s always cool to see your song in a movie.

BOP&TB: What was your favorite thing about making the La Da Dee video? Are there any moments from filming that stand out?

Cody: We had a great time on set that day. The location is really cool and it was nice not having to run around to new places all day, it can really make your video that much better when you can focus on nailing your takes in one place. Also, the food was pretty great on set as you can imagine, I think I ate like 4 burgers that day.

BOP&TB: “La Da Dee” is perfect for Cloudy 2, but we’re wondering which of your songs you would pick to be in another famous movie. Which of your own songs would you pick as the theme for the next Hunger Games movie and why?

Cody: I had this bonus track on Surfers Paradise called Better Be Mine that might be a good fit for Hunger Games. It’s hard for me to say though, because most of my songs don’t fit that vibe.

BOP&TB: We know that you’re in a relationship now, so our readers are dying to know: What’s the most romantic thing you do for your girlfriend?

Cody: That’s difficult to say. I’m a bit of a romantic, so I tend to do a lot of romantic things. I’d say one of the more recent things was sending her 6 dozen roses while I was away from her in Australia.

BOP&TB: What was the first thing you noticed about your current girlfriend that made you realize you really liked her and wanted to ask her out?

Cody: She was just such a cool chick. We really started out as just friends and I was blown away by how chill she was. I’ve always said that I just wanted a girl that I could be myself around and she was immediately that.

BOP&TB: What advice do you have for getting a crush to notice you?

Cody: To piggy back on my last answer, just be yourself. Be cool, be awkward, be funny, be intelligent, whatever it is that you are, just be IT.
